25 years of helping gardeners win back their summers

In 2026, Garden Mats celebrates 25 years of helping home gardeners and commercial growers beat weeds and boost yields—with a weed barrier that’s designed to last.

Garden Mats began with a simple, stubborn idea: there has to be a better way than spending summer after summer weeding. In fact, the product was born in spring 2002, after a major life disruption and a whole lot of rebuilding—followed by a $356 leap of faith (investment) into prototypes and research.

Twenty-five years later, that same practical mission still drives everything we do: more vegetables, less labor, and a healthier garden.

What makes Garden Mats different

Garden Mats are built around a few core principles that organic gardeners care about:
